Building resilience through integrated climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction: Concept Note
The high-level side event aims to highlight the importance of an integrated approach between climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction to build resilience and ensure sustainable development. The event will facilitate a dialogue among member states, concerned organizations and development practitioners on their experiences and lessons learned resulting from an integrated climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction approach.

Providing accurate, timely and reliable weather, water and climate information will be key in supporting the efforts of leaders across sub-Saharan Africa to build resilience to climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. When used to improve decision making, hydro-meteorological information can empower nations, save thousands of lives every year, and strengthen livelihoods across a region that has contributed the least to human-induced climate change, but is among the most vulnerable to its effects.

The Te Maeva Nui event in July, where many of the outer island students congregate on Rarotonga, presented a great opportunity for Climate Change Cook Islands (CCCI) to host a week-long workshop. The objective of the workshop was to give senior students the opportunity to - build their awareness of issues relating to climate change, develop their research skills, and to capture the interest of students with the various disciplines involved as potential careers for them. Climate Change Adaptation Facility Side Event at GEF Assembly: LDC Experiences Ensuring Food Security in a Changing Climate
The Canada-UNDP Climate Change Adaptation Facility (CCAF) recently organized a side event a the GEF Assembly in Cancun, Mexico on 26 May, 2014 entitled "LDC Experiences Ensuring Food Security in a Changing Climate: Sharing Lessons and Looking Forward." The side event, jointly supported by the Government of Canada and the UNDP, provided an opportunity for an exchange on what LDCs are doing to address the impacts of climate change on food security.
